Fabric8 Contest Spoonflower and Robert Kaufman

Hier wordt weinig gemaakt de laatste tijd. Rugsores... Maar ik heb wel een ontwerp voor de Spoonflower Fabric8 wedstrijd gemaakt. De deadline is vandaag, dus wie nog mee wil doen moet als de kippen in de pen klimmen, want dat is namelijk het thema. "Moderne stofontwerpen die de stijl van pentekeningen oproepen die ingekleurd zijn met waterverf". De prijs is een baan als stoffenontwerper bij Robert Kaufman. Nu wil ik mijn toekomstig werkgever niet op voorhand voor het hoofd stoten, maar ik had een ander thema gekozen. Bij pentekeningen denk ik aan schetsjes in een reisdagboek, maar zelfs dat doe ik eerlijk gezegd gewoon met potlood. Ik heb nog wel even met het idee gespeeld, maar het werd een stof die ik zelf nooit zou kopen en je mag maar met een stof meedoen.

Nu vind ik ook mijn uiteindelijke inzending niet de allerbegerenswaardige stof, maar wel een heel fijn uitgangspunt voor een collectie van acht stoffen. Dat is namelijk stap 2 van de wedstrijd. Nu eerst maar eens bij de eerste honderd zien te komen.  Ahum. Daarna is uw hulp geboden. Kijk ook eens hier voor een bijdrage aan de contest.

There's not much crafting around here. A hernia is apparantly a longtime companion. But I did manage to enter the Spoonflower contest. The winner gets a job offer from Robert Kaufman, the fabric company. Well, that would be a career change! The theme however wasn't quite my cup of tea: designs that evoke the style of pen and ink drawing, colored with waterpaint. And you're only granted one entry. Did I pick the right one?

Happy Birthday

A homemade present has become a part of the birthday ritual for Lauren. Last year I made her a butterfly mosquito net, this year a sewing kit. The needlebook and matching pincushion I made of felt.  I couldn't find the time to sew the whole kit, as I originally intended,  but bought a box instead at a hideous store  for almost nothing. I changed the look a bit and added my 'vervlogen dagen' button.
The lady in my favourite fabric store used to say that "there are no people living at the back", when I excused myself for the messy back of a quilt top. In case of the needlebook and pincushion an embellished, people might also live at the back, hence the embellishments. I put also three Kaffe Fasset fat quarters in her kit, for the sake of matching colors.

And for now, let them eat cake! Happy Birthday, lieve Lauren. 

Velvet

A friend of ours is a fabric agent. He sells fabric to fashionlabels. Now and again he makes me happy by giving me his leftover samples. A few weeks ago he brought  me a box of velvet samples and left me totally smitten (with the fabric...). Today I made a  ballet bag  for Lauren. I remembered this one  and that inspired me to make mine.

I made little eyelets at the bottom, so she can also use it as a backpack. I can't deside which side I like best. Can you?
